Patented Helibar single-screw extruders from Extrudex Kunststoffmaschinen GmbH in Mühlacker, Germany, are designed for energy efficiency, economy, reliability, and durability. They reduce energy consumption by 10% to 60% vs. typical machines of the same size, the supplier says. The spiral grooved-feed section is said to stand up to highly abrasive materials and to improve heat transfer for faster melting, permitting a 45-mm extruder to match the output capacity of a conventional 60-mm machine. In 90% of applications, the extruder can be air-cooled, which is less expensive than water.
