A new line of inline coilers for hose, tubing, pipe, and wire/cable incorporates a dual-spindle turret winder designed to handle products from 0.032 to 0.625 in. diam. These systems from Tulsa Power, Tulsa, Okla., are equipped to coil or spool as a standard feature (coiling heads optional). The ACT system has fully automatic cut-and-transfer that, upon a signal from the total-length counter, quickly cuts, clamps, and transfers the product from full reel to empty reel without interrupting the process and at speeds up to 1000 ft/min. An ultrasonic dancer locates the position of the product and ensures smooth, tension-controlled winding without contacting the product. This loop control system reportedly offers the lowest tension possible for winding even the most sensitive products. ACT series coilers with color touchscreen can reduce labor by utilizing one operator for several extrusion lines.
