Kuhne GmbH blown-film technology will now be available to North American processors through sister company American Kuhne, Ashaway, R.I. American Kuhne has focused on designing and supplying high-performance barrier screws and extruders since it was launched in January 1997, but will now be offering complete blown film systems designed and manufactured at the Kuhne Group in Germany. American Kuhne will provide sales, service, and spare parts.
Kuhne GmbH group specializes in blown film lines for standard and special applications. Its three line concepts are:
•SmartBubble: Complete systems for production of monolayer and multilayer films (up to 11 layers) for a wide variety of applications including HMW-HDPE films, stretch hoods, lamination films, stretch and shrink films, food packaging, and industrial and consumer bags. Innovative air-ring designs reportedly enable higher outputs and superior physical properties compared with conventional methods.
•CoolBubble: Water-quenched lines for barrier packaging and thermoforming applications with exceptional optical and physical properties.
•TripleBubble: Biaxially oriented film lines for demanding packaging applications. These oriented films present unique opportunities for alternative packaging by offering advanced shrink, barrier, and optical properties plus thinner gauges and lower costs.
In support of this effort, American Kuhne has hired Tom Helming as the v.p. of blown film systems. Helming spent more than 25 years at Gloucester Engineering Co. in product and sales management.
