Macro Engineering & Technology Inc., Mississauga, Ont., has developed a winder for winding either wide sheeting or narrow films on center, a configuration that is said to be well suited to geomembrane/agricultural-film swing lines.
The winder is a center-turret type with two winding modes: a fully automatic mode for agricultural films and a semi-automatic mode for geomembranes, where operators need to manually attach the sheet to the core. The machine accommodates webs with thicknesses of 30 to 2500 microns and widths between 1.0 and 6.2 m. It winds rolls up to 800 mm diam. on 150-mm cores and runs at up to 120 m/min. It can wind slit rolls (multiple ups), folded films, and gusseted films (up to eight folds). Rolls are automatically removed from the winder with an unloading cart.

The development is said to be the first of its kind, and it meets Cat 6, Cat 7 and Cat 8 standards for physically foamed data cables.
