A new collapsible core from Progressive Components, Wauconda, Ill., is a positive, mechanically actuated device that eliminates the cycle times of complex gear-and-rack approaches, resulting in a simplifi ed, “open-shut” tool. The DT Core offers maintenance advantages with its quick-lock feature that allows removing and servicing the core while the mold is in the press. Compact design reportedly also allows for tighter cavity spacing than with comparable gear-and-rack systems, allowing use of a smaller press or more cavities in the same size press. And using the mold opening for actuation eliminates the ejector system and reduces mold height—an advantage with stack molds—and also allowing installation on the cavity half.
