A new palletizing system for PET bottles is claimed to be 50% faster than previous systems. A key feature of the new palletizer from Sidel Inc., Norcross, Ga., is reduced idle time for raising and lowering the preforming head for the bottle rows. Output is 27,000 bottles/hr for 1.5-L bottles and up to 40,000/hr for 0.5-L containers. Loading and unloading are done once for every three inlets or entry points, vs. once for every entry with previous systems. The head for preparing the bottle rows consists of a number of guides. The head moves a step for each inlet and when all the guides have been fi lled, it deposits a layer of bottles on the transfer table. Lowering and shifting the preforming heads are carried out by brushless motors. The number of entry points can be varied according to production needs, up to a maximum of fi ve inlets.
