Up to now, shrink film of poly lactic acid (PLA) biopolymer has been made with just MD orientation for bottle labels. But the Clysar div. of Bemis Co., Inc., Neenah, Wis., says its PLAnet is the first biaxially oriented PLA shrink film. The 70-in.-wide, monolayer film has 30% to 50% shrink in either direction and is produced at Clysar in Oshkosh, Wis., then slit and finished in Clinton, Iowa. It was launched last November at the PMMI show in Chicago. The film, which comes in 75 gauge and up to 40 in. wide, is suitable for bottom-overlapped seal packages with minimal equipment modification, but not for side-seal machines. Side sealing folds the PLA film, which tends to crack. (888) 425-9727 • www.clysar.com
