Four new masterbatches of chemical blowing agents (CBAs) are aimed at PVC building construction applications such as exterior trim boards, decorative moldings, door sills, foam-core pipe, and wire insulation. These new Hydrocerol grades from Clariant Additive Masterbatches, Holden, Mass., reportedly have been shown in field tests to significantly improve productivity while reducing costs. Hydrocerol 8404 is aimed at rigid profiles and decorative moldings and is designed for on-line addition during extrusion. Grade 8580 is a powder designed to be incorporated into the compound prior to profile extrusion. It is aimed at moldings, profiles, and sheet. Grade 1211 is also a powder that is reportedly very effective at minimizing yellowing caused by incomplete decomposition. Typical applications include door sills, interior moldings, exterior trim board, and foam-core pipe. Grade 1625 is designed for thin-wall applications such as wire insulation.
