A new electric servo-driven actuator designed specifically for hot-runner valve gates is said to provide more accurate and repeatable fill control than hydraulic or pneumatic actuation. The ServoGate linear electric actuator is new from Tol-O-Matic Inc., Hamel, Minn., a manufacturer of linear motion actuators and control systems. ServoGate has a space-saving integrated motor/actuator design rather than separate motor and actuator components. A threaded rod connected to the valve gate passes through the hollow shaft of a linear actuator and rotating nut. The integrated motor rotates the nut with a high degree of precision for accurate gate movement. Windows-based software is used for point-and-click programming. The actuator has a 6 in. nominal length and diameter and 0.5-in. standard stroke. It is water-cooled to operate at up to 400 F and can deliver a continuous force of 500 lb.
