BASF’s Elastogran subsidiary in Germany introduced Lupranol Balance 50, a polyol derived up to 31% from castor oil. It is aimed at slabstock foams for mattresses, which would contain up to 24% renewable material. Previously, odor and processing problems kept natural-oil polyols out of flexible slabstock. This “drop-in” product is said to have no effect on processing or foam properties. Contact BASF Corp., Polyurethanes, Wyandotte, Mich. (734) 324-6292 • www.plasticsportal.com/usa
