Economical band and cartridge heaters and single-zone temperature controllers were recently added to the line of products for injection molders from IMS Co., Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Stock and custom replacement heater bands for all makes of injection machines have mica insulation and average watt density of 31 to 46 W/sq in. "Hot Sleeves" stock models start as low as $6.60. IMS's new Hot Stix cartridge heaters come in three styles: general-purpose types, ones with built-in thermocouple, and 0.24-in. diam. models for internally heated nozzles. They deliver up to 100 W/sq in. at up to 842 F. Prices start as low as $9.50. Two 15-amp, closed-loop temperature controllers (photo) have new anti-arcing circuitry to help prevent accidental damage. Other new features include indicators for open heater, blown fuse, and over-current condition, as well as an automatic soft start. Model S20-D3C has a simple mechanical setpoint control and costs $170. Model UATC-20, suitable for hot runners, has electronic setpoint control, output power display, ground fault indicator, and Standby and Boost keys. It costs $225.
