A new continuous, roll-fed thermoformer for large packaging items like clamshells and cake domes features 40% greater mold area and 40% higher output than previous models. The heavy-duty 162 FM model from Lyle Industries Inc., Beaverton, Mich., accepts molds up to 62 x 62 in. and is claimed to be the largest in the industry. The 162FM is a servo-actuated, PC-controlled, form-only machine that is said to offer outstanding precision and repeatability. Full-stroke dry-cycle speed is 45 cycles/min, platen stroke is 9 in., and max. sheet width is 65 in. Lyle offers two matched-metal trim presses to accommodate the new machine: the P2 Series horizontal or PV Series vertical unit.
