Two new proprietary additive concentrates are aimed at production of high-clarity PE films. Available from Ingenia Polymers Corp., Houston, they are IP1092 high-clarity antiblock and IP1810 PE clarifier. Both are heavy-metal-free and formulated to comply with CONEG and FDA regulations. The antiblocking effect of IP 1092 is said to be permanent, because the antiblock particles are bound within the polymer matrix. It also maintains lower film haze than other antiblocking agents. LDPE blown film tests show that IP1092 outperforms Ingenia’s workhorse IP1091 in both antiblocking effectiveness (40 g vs. 68 g blocking force) and haze (11% vs. 15%). IP1810 clarifying masterbatch is designed to reduce haze in LLDPE and HDPE films. It was developed as an alternative to blending LDPE with LLDPE or HDPE to improve clarity, because LDPE reduces film mechanical properties. Tests show that IP1810 improves film clarity without compromising mechanical properties and also yields a substantial improvement in vapor barrier. In LLDPE film tests, addition of 2% IP1810 reduced haze from 18% for the control to about 7%, vs. nearly 10% haze for film with 20% LDPE added. (713) 296-1500 • www.ingeniapolymers.com

Multiblock polymer, when added in small amounts to a mix of the two otherwise incompatible polyolefins, creates a mechanically tough blend.
