High-Flow PEEK Is New for Thin-Wall Parts

A new family of high-flow PEEK grades is designed for injection molding thin-wall and highly filled parts. Victrex 90 resins from Victrex USA Inc., Greenville, S.C., have lower molecular weight than other PEEK products but reportedly offer equivalent mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electrical properties. They permit part designs that were previously only possible with lower viscosity materials like LCP, PPS, and epoxy. Spiral flow at 2 mm depth is more than double that of standard Victrex products. The new materials can mold sections thinner than 0.2 mm. They are available unfilled or with glass or carbon fiber. Fiber loading up to 60% is possible without affecting processing, surface finish, or cycle time, Victrex says. A promising market is electronics for lead-free soldering.
