High-Heat Release Film Offers Cost Savings

A new release film for autoclave processing of composites handles complex shapes and cure temperatures up to 500 F while also providing cost savings of up to 20%. The secret is new technology for coextruding FEP fluoropolymer with lower-cost resins.

A new release film for autoclave processing of composites handles complex shapes and cure temperatures up to 500 F while also providing cost savings of up to 20%. The secret is new technology for coextruding FEP fluoropolymer with lower-cost resins. Multilayer FluoroLease film from Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics, Wayne, N.J., reportedly offers a 50% increase in yield vs. standard FEP in a 1-mil-thick film. That allows cost-effective use of thicker gauges for easier handling in lay-ups. FluoroLease reportedly has better elongation and conformability than other low-cost release films.
