New developments in preform molds for oriented mono- and multilayer bottles of PET and other materials were announced by Mold & Hot Runner Technology (MHT), Hochheim, Germany. MHT has developed a new "High Performance" stack mold for PET preforms, called HP-Stack, which is designed to optimize water consumption and maximize heat transfer to trim cycle times up to 30%. HP-Stack uses MHT's new patented post-mold cooling technology. MHT has also developed a new coinjection mold system for multi-layer preforms to make barrier PET bottles. Molds can be designed to allow conversion from multilayer to monolayer and back. In addition, MHT now offers molds and hot-runner systems for materials other than PET. The systems can produce preforms from clarified PP or polylactic acid (PLA).
