A thin-sleeve calibrator for PVC profiles, in development for several years by Technoplast Kunststofftechnik GmbH in Austria (U.S. office in Cranberry, Pa.), offers very high throughputs of PVC profiles—up to 5 meters/min. Called “TC-one!,” it’s the commercial version of the prototype Vision system, introduced in 2006. It uses a single vacuum pump to pull turbulent cooling water through a vacuum tank around the thin calibrator sleeve, with no need for an extra pump to force cooling water through bored channels, as in a typical solid calibrator. Technoplast has sold several of the new calibrators in Germany. The system (US Pat. Applic. 20060034966) has a 3.5-mm-thick metal sleeve that conforms to the outside surfaces of the profile and has long slits to apply vacuum. Low-pressure turbulent water flow around the sleeve increases cooling and creates a vacuum inside the sleeve, between the profile and the metal. (724) 742-1244 • www.technoplast.at
