A new accumulator-assisted toggle press for high-speed packaging and in-mold labeling (IML) made its U.S. debut at last month’s NPE show. The TM Xpress series from Wittmann Battenfeld, Torrington, Conn., comprises five models from 176 to 495 tons. A TM Xpress 270/1350 unit molded 750-cc PP containers in two cavities with overlapping cross-labels in a 4.3-sec cycle time. The machine comes with a choice of screw/barrel L/D of 22:1 or 26:1, minimum 29,000-psi injection pressure for all screw diameters, acceleration rate of 10,000 mm/sec, and low-maintenance linear guides to support the moving platen.
