WEB EXCLUSIVE: New KEG-2005 series liquid silicone rubber from Shin-Etsu Silicones of America, Inc.,Akron, Ohio, has enhanced tear strength to allow demolding thin-wall parts without damage and to provide better toughness in use. It is formulated to prevent cracks from propagating straight through and produce “knotty tear” instead. In tests, the new series showed average tear strength of 297 ppi vs. around 150 ppi for competitive LSRs. It is aimed at highly strained applications such as baby bottle nipples and peristaltic pump tubes for dispensing food products and pharmaceutical nutrients. The series has been sold in Europe for a year and is being introduced here for healthcare applications first. Medical and food uses will be next in line. (330) 630-9860 • shinetsusilicones.com
