A new three-layer laminated PET film label is designed to keep drinks in aluminum cans cold. DuPont Packaging in Wilmington, Del., developed the Cool2Go label stock (U.S. Patent Application 20030207059). It’s a sandwich, 30 to 40 mils thick, of two PET films around an insulating layer of PET fiberfill. Ultrasonic cutting seals the edges. The outer polyester film is coated to accept printing. Cool2Go label stock is being toll produced for DuPont. It was test-marketed briefly in 2002 and again in 2003. Now a big promotion for a new Labatt beer, called Labatt Blue Cold One, is running from May through October in Ontario and Quebec.
