A new EVA random copolymer for oil-resistant crosslinked cable and fl exible jacketing boasts a very high vinyl acetate content (40%) and a low MFI (less than 3), a diffi cult combination to achieve, according to the supplier, Arkema Inc., Philadelphia. Currently undergoing testing, Evatane XO601will be launched by the end of the year. When blended with other products, it reportedly produces good mechanical properties and very good oil resistance. Standard 40% EVAs normally provide high fl ow but do not meet the cable market's requirements for elongation at break and tensile strength, according to Arkema. The 0.96 g/cc EVA has elongation at break of 900% to 1100% and tensile strength at break of 10 MPa (1450 psi). The high VA content of XO601 is said to bring softness, fl exibility, and polarity. The material can be compounded with high levels of fi ller for fl ame-resistant applications. Tel: (215) 419-7000 . www.arkema.com
