The smallest twin-screw extruder from Berstorff Corp., Florence, Ky., has been redesigned with rectangular barrels and higher torque. The 25-mm diam. ZE 25 UTX has 103 Nm of torque per screw with a splined shaft instead of a polygon. It also has the "Ultra-Glide" feature for retracting the screws and motor drive together on rails out the back end of the barrel, making the extruder easy to check and clean when used for recipe development. The rectangular barrel has heating cartridges and cooling lines built into the barrel, whereas they were mounted on the outside of the previous round barrel. The rectangular barrel sections dismantle with C-clamps for faster changing of L/D. Tel: (859) 283-0200 . www.berstorff.com
