A new hopper vibrating unit is said to prevent bridging and rat-holing of cohesive, hard-to-flow bulk materials in stainless-steel hoppers. ActiFlow Smart Bulk Solids Activator from K-Tron Process Group, Pitman, N.J., consists of a vibratory drive that bolts onto the outside of the hopper and a controller that optimizes vibration frequency and amplitude in response to changing flow conditions. ActiFlow eliminates need for flexible sidewall agitators, aeration pads, or mechanical agitators with secondary motors and gearboxes. Self-tuning K-Tron Control Module (KCM) monitors the system and continuously adjusts ActiFlow to maintain fl ow within the hopper. Bridges and rat-holes reportedly are prevented before they can form. The device is also said to simplify cleaning for material changeovers and to trim overall height. ActiFlow is designed for gravimetric feeding in concert with K-Tron’s Smart Force Transducer (SFT) weigh scales. Filtering algorithms screen out vibrations, ensuring an accurate weight signal with the ActiFlow running. (856) 589-0506 • www.ktron.com/ActiFlow
