A new hot-air method provides non-contact removal of microscopic, hair-like flash from molded, cut, and skived parts without open flames. The new Leister LE-Mini Heater, available from Malcom Co., Inc., Tiverton, R.I., blows 0.35 to 1.06 cfm of compressed air at up to 1380 F to deflash medical parts such as catheters and personal-care items like applicators. This compact heater (1 in. diam. x 10 in. long) can be provided with a variety of nozzles for different applications. Built-in thermocouples are optional. Prices run from $400 to $1500.
