Airboards, the large perforated aluminum panels used as non-contact collapsing frames for sticky stretch film, are now being combined with coated composite rollers by Battenfeld Gloucester Corp., Gloucester, Mass. The novel roller/airboard combination is called the RollAir Collapser. The lower half is airboard with zero film contact, the upper half is composite rollers with light traction—enough to guide the film into the hauloff. The roller section doesn’t entrap air under the film like solid airboards. The hybrid also isn’t limited to LLDPE stretch film like a solid airboard but can be used with HDPE and nylon, too.
