A new series of horizontal hydraulic presses with improved controls and valving technology comes from Arburg Inc., Newington, Conn. Arburg is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the introduction of its Allrounder C Golden Edition. It comes in five versions (270 C, 320 C, 420 C, 470 C, and 570 C) from 44 to 220 tons. They have the "Selogica direct" controller with a new 15-in. color touchscreen instead of a keypad. The controls are said to have simple and clear menu navigation with graphic input fields for easier use and faster set-up. The series also features a fast-switching valve technology first seen on Arburg's Allrounder U, which reportedly improves precision of molded parts. Valves are mounted close to the functions they control for greater accuracy. The servo-controlled, two-pump hydraulic system allows for overlapping machine movements to save cycle time. Five injection units (each with three screw/barrel choices) have been adopted from Arburg's new Allrounder U series, except for the largest, which comes from the C series. Shot capacities range from 0.74 to 15.3 oz.
