A new plastics impact tester boasts a highly accurate controller and high-resolution display. The IT 504 from Tinius Olsen, Horsham, Pa., has Izod and Charpy impact fixtures that can be easily interchanged via a T-slotted block. Standard features include selectable energy units and strength calculations, as well as several break-type options: complete, hinge, partial, no-break, and necking. The system also has automatic or manual Toss correction, auto calibration for bearing windage and friction, and automatic or manual update of specimen number. There is also a real-time display of energy for verifying display accuracy against traceable measurements of pendulum height and weight.
