An enhanced grade of BASF Corp.'s Styrolux styrene-butadiene copolymer (SBC) is claimed to reduce production costs for foodservice and packaging products such as clear cups, trays, utensils, and lids, as well as blisters and OPS. BASF has built more toughness into its Styrolux 3G55, which can be used in blends with GPPS for extrusion and thermoforming. Compared with conventional blends of SBC and PS, up to 25% less Styrolux 3G55 is enough to achieve desired toughness, stiffness, and thermoformability.
