At the Fakuma 2014 exhibition last month in Friedrichshaven, Germany, Wittmann Battenfeld (U.S. office in Torrington, Conn.) will show off an updated sandwich molding system. The company has long offered this technology for simultaneous injection of core/skin structures with foamed or regrind core and solid virgin outer layer. What’s new is a simplified sandwich nozzle design that can be cleaned from the front for quick color changes and can be rotated 180° to allow reversing the materials for the core and skin.

The nozzle will be shown on a MacroPower 450 machine running foam/solid PP flower pots with two horizontal injection units in a “Y” configuration.
