With a processing time of just 0.03 sec, and a surface area slightly smaller than a regular sheet of paper, the new PE-400 mold monitor from Comet Plastic Equipment, LLC, N. Palm Beach, Fla., accommodates two cameras for monitoring large molds or additional detail on small ones. Weighing 2.2 lb, it’s an all-in-one system for detecting parts left in the cavity, insert loading errors, broken pins, and positions of slide cores. The PE-400 can actuate multiple ejector cycles and can automatically compensate for changes in ambient light intensity and mold-open position. The LCD screen has 4X zoom ability and data can be stored or downloaded via compact flash card. Setup is by simple selection of items on the screen, and a reference image can be captured automatically in one cycle.
Comet Plastic Eequipment is the successor to the former Comet Automation Systems in Dayton, Ohio. The owner, Thomas Rajkovich, closed the old firm and moved to Florida, where he started the new company along similar lines.
