Last fall, KraussMaffei in Germany (U.S. office in Florence, Ky.) started up the largest machine it has ever built, a 5500-metric-ton MX hydromechanical two-platen unit, at Weber GmbH & Co. KG, a German molder of large waste containers. Also delivered to Weber was a 4500-m.t. MX press. The new machines are producing containers of 660 to 1100 liters. Both have LRX 1000 linear robots with 3000 mm X-axis stroke.

In order to handle molds weighing up to 150 m.t., the presses have lengthened and widened sliding shoes on the machine bed and a guide for the tiebars in the moving platen across the entire opening width of the clamping unit.
