A May open house in Germany saw the global introduction of the GX series of hydromechanical, two-platen presses from KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH (U.S. office in Florence, Ky.). These machines from 400 to 650 metric tons feature the new fast-acting GearX clamping units mounted behind the moving platen and the new GuideX platen guide shoe with an “intelligent fixed bearing joint” to maintain platen parallelism. The presses are designed for easy access to clamp, ejection, nozzle, and pump areas, as well as the electrical cabinets, to facilitate setup and maintenance. New variable-volume pumps allow parallel action of ejectors and core pulls. The new MC6 control system allows process configuration with drag-and-drop and wiping movements. New “SplitScreen” design always shows the operator all the most important process parameters. And WizardX programming on the MC6 allows easy setup of the company’s LRX series robots. Modular design allows selective application of servo-electric drives.
