INJECTION MOLDING: Smaller Two-Platen Press for High-Volume Packaging

The German parent of KraussMaffei Corp., Florence, Ky., has come out with the smallest model in its MX hydraulic two-platen series, aimed at high-productivity molding of caps and closures with high-cavitation and stack molds.

The German parent of KraussMaffei Corp., Florence, Ky., has come out with the smallest model in its MX hydraulic two-platen series, aimed at high-productivity molding of caps and closures with high-cavitation and stack molds. The new MX 650+ has a clamp force of 650 metric tons; the smallest MX unit before now was 850 m.t. The new model has injection rates up to 700 mm/sec, very high plasticating rates with energy-saving electric screw drive, and ability to carry molds weighing up to 29,700 lb. It also has an energy-saving variable-speed pump drive.
