KraussMaffei Corp. (USA), Florence, Ky., recently announced the U.S. introduction of its newest press series, the GX line of two-platen machines from 400 to 650 tons. They were introduced in Germany last June (see July ’12, Keeping Up). The machines were introduced at an open house at Proper Group International in Warren, Mich., a moldmaker and molder whose plant also houses a KraussMaffei tech center.
Hydromechanical GX machines are recommended for their fast clamp movement, achieved with the new GearX locking unit, which has one compact hydraulic cylinder (electric optional) on each side of the clamp. It drives a coupling rod that simultaneously locks two clamp cylinders in under 0.25 sec.
Also new is the GuideX guide shoe that supports the moving platen and maintains parallelism. There’s also the new MC6 controller with a 19-in. touchscreen and numerous features to make it faster and easier to use, including provision for operation while wearing gloves.

A May open house in Germany saw the global introduction of the GX series of hydromechanical, two-platen presses from KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH (U.S. office in Florence, Ky.). These machines from 400 to 650 metric tons feature the new fast-acting GearX clamping units mounted behind the moving platen and the new GuideX platen guide shoe with an “intelligent fixed bearing joint” to maintain platen parallelism.
