An infrared-reflecting masterbatch is designed for PE films that protect products ranging from farm crops to cars and buildings from the sun’s heat. PM13603 masterbatch from Techmer PM, Clinton, Tenn., lowers the temperature under clear films. For example, 6-mil agricultural LDPE film with 10% of PM13603 reportedly can lower the temperature under the film by as much as 20d F. In summer, a construction material utilizing the masterbatch could save energy by trimming air-conditioning or cooling costs. For homes with big windows or glass patio doors, a PM13603-modified film can be used in the glazing to save energy. The same is true for car windows. Other potential applications include tents, recreational vehicles, and temporary structures. (865) 457-6700 * www.techmerpm.com
