New five- and six-axis jointed-arm robots suitable for injection machine tending, assembly, or laboratory automation are offered by Rixan Associates, Dayton, Ohio (North American distributor for Mitsubishi Robots of Japan). The RV-3S (six-axis) and RV-3SJ (five-axis) models replace Mitsubishi’s RV-2A and RA-3AJ respectively.

The newer versions have a longer reach of 641 mm, positioning repeatability to ±0.020 mm, and operating speeds up to 5500 mm/sec. Payload capacity is 6.6 lb. The robots have a 64-bit RISC/DSP controller with arm compliance, collision detection, and position restoration functions.
