Protection against lime scale or rust build-up inside cooling channels is said to be provided by a new device from Hasco America Inc., Arden, N.C. The Z9900 cartridge is placed in the cooling duct and held there by the standard plugs of the cooling unit. Cooling water flows around the cartridge, acting as a conductor for an electro-chemical reaction between the cartridge alloy and the steel wall of the cooling channel. Ions leave the cartridge and deposit a protective film in the cooling channel.
