The Eden500V is the newest member of the Eden line of PolyJet systems made by Israel’s Objet Geometries and distributed in North America by Stratasys Inc., Minneapolis. Like other PolyJet systems, the Eden500V employs a “clean” modeling process analogous to ink-jet printing. Sealed liquid resin cartridges are inserted into the machine, which then jets out only the amount needed to build the model. While each model layer is built, it is simultaneously cured with uv light. Models are fully cured when they are removed. The new unit’s build envelope measures 19.7 x 15.7 x 7.9 in., which allows multiple models to be produced in a single run. Four jumbo-size material cartridges allow the machine to run longer unattended. Its high-speed mode is twice as fast as previous PolyJet systems. This is achieved by reducing horizontal resolution to 0.0011 in. However, the high-resolution setting of 0.0006 in. is said to provide detail and surface smoothness that rivals any competitive process. Both modes are said to offer excellent quality, with an X and Y resolution of up to 600 dpi. The Eden500V can use all PolyJet materials.
