LCP Grades Boast Higher Weld Strength

A new series of liquid-crystal polymers is said to offer significantly higher weld strength and toughness, attributes which were previously considered shortcomings of LCPs. The new materials from Toray Marketing and Sales (America) Inc., N.Y.C., are said to make use of advanced polymer nanotechnology. The Siveras LX series reportedly has 50% higher weld strength and only one-third as much outgassing during molding as previous grades. Flowability is also said to be improved by about 30% and dimensional stability is enhanced due to lower mold shrinkage.
