Graham Packaging Co., York, Pa., has granted the first license for its technology to make panel-free, hot-fill PET bottles to Japanese bottle manufacturer Hokkai Can, Tokyo. Graham's Active Transverse Panel (ATP) technology, introduced last year in the U.S., offers significant lightweighting ability and design freedom because it eliminates the need for vacuum-uptake panels. Hokkai says it was drawn to the ATP technology so it could manufacture hot-fill bottles that compete with aseptically packaged beverages. Hokkai expects to begin production by mid-year. A Hokkai subsidiary, Hihon Can Pack, is the largest beverage packager in Japan. Graham: (717) 849-8500 . www.grahampackaging.com
