A new line of low-durometer liquid silicone rubber (LSR) boast high tear strength and high viscosity for minimal flash.

A new line of low-durometer liquid silicone rubber (LSR) boast high tear strength and high viscosity for minimal flash. Also new from Shin-Etsu Silicones of America Inc., Akron, Ohio, is a line of LSR that provides primerless adhesion to a range of thermoplastics. The high-tear-strength materials include KE2004-20, with 20 Shore A hardness. Applications include baby-bottle nipples, catheter balloons, and ear plugs. Grades KE2004-5 and KE2004-10 have even lower hardness (5 and 10 A, respectively) for cushioning such as shoe insoles, orthotics, and gel-like grips. The materials' high viscosity helps to eliminate flash or tearing during demolding. KE2090 and KE2095 Select-Hesive LSRs have a fast cure and yield a strong chemical bond to thermoplastic substrates despite high heat (120 C) and humidity and thermal cycling (-40 to +120 C.). KE2090 adheres to PC, PBT, and PPO while KE2095 bonds to nylon 6 and 66 and PPA. Hardnesses range from 30 to 70 Shore A. Tel: (513) 2328917 . www.shinetsusilicones.com
