Long-Fiber PEEK Brings High Strength

New long-fiber PEEK compounds offer higher impact strength than conventional short-fiber versions, making them suitable for metal replacement.

New long-fiber PEEK compounds offer higher impact strength than conventional short-fiber versions, making them suitable for metal replacement. RTP 2200 Series products are based on Victrex PEEK resin. A grade containing 30% glass reinforcement has more than twice the impact strength of short-fiber PEEK with the same reinforcement, according the supplier, RTP Co., Winona, Minn. Grades with 40% and 50% long glass are also offered. The longer fibers mechanically interlock, resulting in reduced warpage and shrinkage and higher stress absorption. The materials are targeted for metal-replacement applications in compressors and pumps that require resistance to chemicals, heat, and wear.
