Low-Warp Nylon For Electrical Parts

A new high-temperature, partially aromatic nylon offers ultra-low-warpage and improved flow for under-hood electrical control boxes and connectors. Zytel HTNLW5035HS resin from DuPont Engineering Polymers, Wilmington, Del., exhibits 66% less warpage than a nylon/PPE alloy and 50% less than two low-warp grades of glass-reinforced PBT. The new nylon also exhibits 25% higher elongation and 50% greater impact resistance than a nylon/PPE. The low-warp nylon also fills the mold with 30% lower peak pressure than the nylon-PPE alloy. Versus PBT, peak fill pressures were 50% to 60% lower, DuPont reports. Another benefit is that the new grade can be molded in tools with hot-water temperature control, rather than hot oil.
