New sizes and options have been added to the lower-priced Ultra line of pipe and profile extruders from American Kuhne Inc. in Norwich, Conn. The new features are especially for medical applications. Ultra originally came in four sizes from 2 to 3.5 in. diam. Kuhne has added four smaller diameters from 0.75 to 1.5 in. and two larger ones, 4.5 and 6 in. Ultra models can be outfitted with medical extruder options from Kuhne’s higher-priced AKcel line, such as round stainless-steel hoppers, no-spill gates, special throat liners, corrosion-resistant barrels (for FEP extrusion), stainless-steel hoods, and medical white paint. An Ultra loaded with AKcel medical features costs 15% to 20% more than a basic Ultra, but still 5% to 10% less than an AKcel extruder.
