New liquid silicone rubber grades from Dow Corning, Midland, Mich., are said to offer high clarity, superior mechanical properties, and shorter molding cycles. A 45 Shore A grade, Silastic LC-45-2004, is aimed at uses such as diving goggles and baby-bottle nipples, while Silastic LC-50-2004 (50 Shore A), is suited to valves and seals for food containers and dispensers. A harder (70 A) grade, LC70-2004, is aimed at mobile-phone keypads, butterfl y valves for food dispensers, bakeware, spatulas, and mats. These materials are said provide smooth mold release to facilitate high-speed manufacturing. They also have low compression set and high tear strength. Tel: (989) 496-6000 . www.dowcorning.com
