Predictive maintenance software that can monitor machine characteristics such as power consumption, vibration, temperature and oil cleanliness in order to identify potential machine problems before failure occurs is new from Husky Injection Molding Systems, Bolton, Ont. Its Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program allows the user to set thresholds for monitored parameters. Once a threshold is exceeded, the software delivers an instant message so that users can react quickly to minimize downtime. PdM uses Husky's PC-based Polaris control, its SmartLink web-based plant-monitoring software, and appropriate sensors to monitor components such as pumps, motors, and seals.
