A diverse range of ‘capstocks’ for outdoor rigid profiles, including a brand new ‘Streaking’ compound for wood-like surfaces will make a debut at NPE 2015. Teknor Apex Company, Pawtucket, R.I. will feature its polymer alloy technology platform that enables the company to custom-formulate capstocks to meet the demanding weather-resistant performance required by today’s rigid PVC and polyolefin coextruded surface compound, or capstock, used in products such as railing systems, window components, fencing, siding, and decking.

Teknor’s comprehensive capability combines the company technical and manufacturing know how with the specialized product offering developed by building product specialist Viking Polymer, which Teknor acquired last year. In addition to the integrated Viking portfolio of products, Teknor now offers compounds that yield a variegated surface, with toners that provide a rich natural undertone and “streakers” that impart a realistic wood-grain effect. For wood/plastic composite applications such as decking the company offers a line of polyolefin capstocks.

Many of the capstocks available are alloys of PVC and other resins with weatherable polymers such as ASA. These are supplied in pellet form, including pre-colored compounds matched to customer requirements. In addition to an extensive laboratory for accelerated weathering tests, Teknor does testing at multiple field locations, reflecting the wide variation of requirements posed by outdoor applications.
