The latest cyclic olefin polymer (COP) from Japan’s Zeon Chemicals (U.S. office in Louisville, Ky.) has the high transparency, high-moisture barrier, chemicals resistance and low absorption of the Zeonex product line used in medical packaging including vials and pre-filled syringes, but surpasses other grades in mechanical properties, such as tensile elongation and impact strength.

Zeon has also improved Zeonex 5000’s heat-sealing properties by optimizing the material’s softening point, which has subsequently allowed for its use in the production of soft packaging for medical products such as soft infusion bags.
