Two new series of liquid silicone rubber (LSR) elastomers aimed at the 6.1%/yr growing medical device industry have been launched by Dow Corning, Midland, Mich.
Silastic Q7-78XX is comprised of three advanced bio-medical grade LSRs, available in Shore A hardnesses of 40, 50 and 70. The other new series of LSRs, C6-7XX, is designed for short term or non-implant applications with three initial products. All of these silicone elastomers reportedly share a uniform chemistry that has been optimized at the molecular level. This uniformity reportedly helps to ensure highly reproducible processing and performance across medical device designs. The company manufactures these new silicones, and its full elastomers portfolio, under strict change and process control systems to help ensure high quality and consistency.
