MATERIALS: High-Heat & Thermally Conductive Nylon

Aimed at automotive underhood components.

New specialty grades of nylons will be highlighted by DSM Engineering Plastics (U.S. office in Birmingham, Mich.) at this month’s Fakuma show in Germany. DSM will unveil the next generation of Diablo high-heat-resistant grades of Stanyl nylon 46 and Akulon nylon 6. These new grades are aimed at automotive underhood components such as air-intake manifolds, ducts, and charge-air coolers, where temperatures can reach up to 250 C (482 F).

DSM will also show off a thermally conductive Stanyl TC grade of nylon 46 for heat sinks in LED lighting.
